Ingredients
100 gms chopped Beetroot*
100 gms whole wheat flour
Directions
- Prepare the Beetroot: Start by chopping the beetroot into small pieces. This step is fun to involve the kids in—let them help with the safe tasks!
- Place the chopped beetroot into a mixer and pulse until it forms a smooth paste. No need to add any water; the beetroot will naturally release its juices.
- In a mixing bowl, combine equal parts of whole wheat flour and the beetroot paste. Knead the mixture for 5-10 minutes to form a soft dough. Avoid adding water; if the dough feels too hard, add just one spoon of water at a time until it reaches the desired consistency.
- Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls. Sprinkle some dry wheat flour on a clean surface, and roll each ball into a round roti. This is another step where the kids can help out—they’ll love shaping their own rotis!
- Heat a tava (griddle) on medium heat. Cook each rolled roti on the tava until it’s golden brown and cooked through. Serve them hot!
Notes
- You can substitute beetroot with any green vegetable of your choice for a different flavor and color. Spinach works wonderfully too!
- For an extra boost of fiber, choose a wheat flour that’s rich in fiber, or better yet, buy whole wheat and get it milled locally for maximum freshness.
